Procedures

Cataract surgery is a safe and effective way to repair vision loss caused by cataracts.

The procedure is conducted in 20-30 minutes, under local or topical anaesthetic and usually does not involve an overnight stay in hospital.

During this surgery, your surgeon will use specialised technology to remove the clouded lens and replace it with a new, artificial lens. You will not be able to feel the new lens once it is in place; it will stay in place for your lifetime and does not require replacement.

Caloundra Privat Day Hospital offer a comprehensive range plastic and cosmetic eye surgeries, delivered by our highly reputable oculoplastic surgeons. Procedures include:

  • Blepharoplasty
  • Cosmetic eyelid surgery
  • Ectropion
  • Entropion
  • Eyelid skin tumour removal
  • Drooping eyelids surgery
  • Surgery for watery eye conditions

A cornea transplant (keratoplasty) can restore vision, alleviate pain, and enhance the appearance of a damaged or diseased cornea. This surgery replaces a portion of your cornea with donor corneal tissue.

Retinal detachment surgery is a procedure to repair a detached retina, a condition where the thin layer of tissue at the back of the eye separates from its underlying support. This detachment can lead to vision loss if not treated promptly. The surgery aims to reattach the retina, restoring normal function and preventing further damage.

Depending on the severity and type of detachment, different techniques may be used, such as pneumatic retinopexy, scleral buckling, or vitrectomy. Early intervention is crucial for the best possible outcome, helping to preserve vision and prevent permanent loss.
